10 uncut writing nibs/goose quills

The writing instrument of the Middle Ages was the goose quill.
A goose quill was cut to size, and the fletching was often removed. Goose quills were the most commonly used writing tool until around 200 years ago.

For writing, the quill was cut as a tapered nib, meaning the nib was wide enough to produce broad and thin lines. For illustrations, the nib was cut as a pointed nib. Feathers can be hardened by placing them in hot sand.
