Product information "10 Nibs Uncut"
The writing instrument of the Middle Ages was the goose quill. A goose feather was cut to size, the feathering was often removed. Goose feathers were the most commonly used writing instrument until about 200 years ago.

For writing, the nib was cut as a ribbon nib, i.e. the nib was wide in order to be able to produce broad and thin strokes. For illustrations, the nib was cut as a pointed nib. Nibs could be hardened by putting them in hot sand.
