Product information "14 amulets and lucky charms"

Egyptian lucky charms
Just like today, amulets in ancient Egypt counted as lucky charms and offered protection against all evil. They were supposed to protect against evil demons or the ill-will of the neighbour. The living wore them as a necklace around the neck, on the wrist or as a ring. For the dead, they were placed between the different layers of linen.

Wearing an amulet alone was not enough. Protection was only guaranteed through proper use and wearing. Thus, the amulets also had to be placed correctly on a mummy. Papyri with precise location plans helped with this.

143 magical objects were found on Tutankhamun's mummy. In the late Egyptian period, there were about 300 different amulets. Most of them were made of clay and processed in a simple firing; it was an everyday object that could sometimes be lost or broken.

A very high-quality and popular material for making amulets was glazed faience. Its blue or green colour was said to have regenerative powers, but only the upper classes could afford it.
