The Constellation Aquila

Aquila is a prominent constellation of the northern summer and autumn sky. It is one of the 48 constellations of ancient Greek astronomy, first described by Claudius Ptolemy.

Aquila, along with Cygnus and Lyra, is one of the most prominent summer constellations. Its strikingly bright primary star, Altair, makes it easy to spot in the summer and autumn sky. Above and below Altair lie the bright stars Tarazed and Alshain. These three stars form the head of the eagle as it flies northeast, toward the Cygnus. The remaining stars are meant to represent the bird's outstretched wings.

Simply pick your favorite constellation from the sky for yourself or someone else. In addition to the 12 zodiac constellations, we have six other particularly beautiful and well-known constellations to choose from.

Discover constellations

It is always a great challenge to discover the constellations in the seemingly endless maze of stars in the sky.

Our maps are not only beautiful to look at, they also help you find your way around the sky. This is particularly impressive if you first pierce the corresponding stars with a needle and hold the map up to the light.

All maps have constellation drawings in the background, inspired by Greek mythology. The zodiac constellations also show the exact dates on which the sun moves through the constellation.
