Deer
Celtic pottery decoration
Date: around 120 BC
Place of discovery: settlement find, Clermont-Ferrand, France

The phenomenon of painted Celtic pottery is limited in time and restricted to the 2nd century BC. The most spectacular pieces were found in the numerous wells of the settlement of Aulnat near Clermont-Ferrand. There, the imaginative decorations had survived exceptionally well in the damp environment. The most common motifs are elaborate depictions of animals and bands of patterns that intertwine to cover the entire belly of the vessels.

Product information "Bookmark deer"

The medieval interlace patterns of the British Isles are today considered typical of Celtic art, but the "Early Celtic Art" of the Latène period experienced its flowering on the European continent already from the late 5th century BC.

The motifs on our bookmarks come from sensational finds, mostly from Celtic princely burial mounds. They are printed on imitation rawhide made of strong paper and can be coloured with both crayons and felt-tip pens.

In a protective cover with decorative ribbon, the colourful works of art become a hard-wearing bookmark.
