Prince of the
Glauberg
Stone statue of a noble Celtic warrior
Date: around 400 BC
Place of discovery: Burial mound on the southern slope of the Glauberg, Hesse
Location: Glauburg

The statue of a Celtic warrior with a heavy neck ring, short sword and shield is one of the most spectacular finds from the burial mound area at the Glauberg. The unusual bonnet with its tongue-shaped appliqués is reminiscent of the leaf shape of mistletoe, which was considered a sacred plant by the Celts. The burial in the burial mound corresponds perfectly with the representation of the statue. Shield, sword, gold neck ring and even the remains of the bonnet with the leaf-shaped appendages were found. It can therefore be assumed that the sculpture was erected as a memorial to the deceased as part of an ancestor or hero cult.

Product information "Bookmark Prince of the Glauberg"

The medieval interlace patterns of the British Isles are today considered typical of Celtic art, but the "Early Celtic Art" of the Latène period experienced its heyday on the European continent as early as the late 5th century BC.

The motifs on our bookmarks come from sensational finds, mostly from Celtic princely burial mounds. They are printed on imitation rawhide made of strong paper and can be coloured with both crayons and felt-tip pens.

In a protective cover with decorative ribbon, the colourful works of art become a hard-wearing bookmark.
