Earth Pigments Cave Painting
Earth Pigments for Cave Painting
Carefully Produced Earth Pigments
In the Lascaux caves in France, investigations into paint residues have revealed a diverse color palette. Black colors correspond to various manganese oxides from the surrounding area. Orange, yellow, and red hues are derived from different iron oxides. The colors were applied directly, without mixing or thermally altering them.
