Product number: 333.OMF.53

Fresnel collecting lens in XXL format
(almost DIN A 4!), only 0.6 mm flat and 39 g light. Enlarges an entire book page 2-fold.

Caution! This lens is at the same time an incredibly strong burning lens that concentrates the sun’s heat in the focal spot 400 times and makes dry wood go up in flames immediately.

Fresnel lenses (“leaf magnifiers”) are strong like solid lenses, but light and flat like paper. In 1821 the French physicist A. L. Fresnel invented a completely flat lens. Its surface is provided with concentric prismatic grooves which ensure the collection or diffusion of light. Its stunning optical effect exerts a strong fascination. Today they are used, for example, in spotlights and lighthouses.
