In the fourth month of the flood, great Osiris festivals were held all over the country to celebrate the god's power of renewal. The figurative realisation took place with a so-called corn osiris: a model made of clay, into whose osiris-shaped deepened silhouette earth and grain were filled.
The sprouting grain indicates the periodic renewal of vegetation and thus the rebirth of the dead. Ideally, a corn osiris should be a form of gold or silver. In fact, it was made of clay or wood (Osiris bed) and varied in size.
Osiris was a versatile god. As a judge, he decided on the afterlife of the deceased. He was also a fertility god who caused the seeds in the fields to sprout anew after the Nile flood.
Take a clay model, earth, a mixture of grains and water. This recipe from the New Kingdom was supposed to serve as a magical safeguard for rebirth in the afterlife.
