The "Golden Mummy" as a special edition - Hand-painted natural papyrus with natural border - approx. 32 × 82 cm

In the necropolis of Sakkara, south of Cairo, a team of Egyptian archaeologists has unearthed a particularly well-preserved mummy from the 30th Dynasty.
"We have discovered perhaps the most beautiful mummy ever found in Egypt," said Zahi Hawass, chairman of the Egyptian Antiquities Authority. The mummy, wearing a golden mask and painted with images of gods, was discovered in a wooden sarcophagus.

What secret does the beautiful mummy of Sakkara hide?
Who was the mysterious dead man with the exceptionally colourful mummy? A high government official who lived at the time of King Teti during the Sixth Dynasty? Or a scion of the pharaonic family?

Experts still do not know who the dead man was and when exactly he lived. A computer tomography should now help solve the mystery. But one thing is already certain: the archaeological team has discovered one of the most beautiful mummies ever excavated in the desert sand at a depth of about six metres. Its bright colours and the golden mask decorated with images of gods are impressive.

After the investigations, it will be on display in the Imhotep Museum in Sakkara. According to Egyptologists, Egyptian rulers were buried in Sakkara, probably the most important burial site of ancient Egypt next to Giza, for about 3000 years. Among other things, the oldest stepped pyramid in the world is found there. Sakkara lies on a rocky embankment west of the Nile.

Our papyrus offer
We offer you light, ochre-coloured natural papyrus from Egypt. You can choose from various hand-laid formats. The design possibilities with papyrus are manifold. You can write on it, paint it or print on it; you can use ink, fibre pens, water-based or tempera paints.

Papyrus is a natural product
In the Nile Delta, papyrus leaves are still produced in the traditional way. Families in the countryside harvest the papyrus stems, which can be up to 6 metres high, and process the raw material into papyrus leaves with great skill. Carefully made papyrus leaves are produced in several steps, which always have an individual, handcrafted character.
