The Celtic Oppidum - Craft set with protective wall, entrance gate, people, animals and vehicles
From the 2nd century B.C. onwards, fortified places and towns called oppidums appeared among the Celtic peoples, who at that time dominated the whole of Central Europe. These were settlements that were generally built on hills and partly fortified with agricultural land. The largest ones, such as Maching or Bibracte (France), could be more than 100 hectares in size. There were several types of fortification, the best known being described by Caesar and known as Murus gallicus (Gallic wall).
