The Dove prism
Inverting prism made of high-quality PMMA (acrylic glass), named after its inventor, the physicist and meteorologist Heinrich W. Dove (1803 - 1879).
Due to its trapezoidal cross-section, it is optimised for image reversal by total reflection, in contrast to rectangular prisms, whose upper half (the "roof tip") is not involved in this process. In the case of image reversal by total internal reflection, only the two oblique surfaces and the underside of the prism are optically effective.
Tip: In the reversal AstroMedia glasses you can experience the reversal image in perfection 579.UBR.
Acrylic glass prism
The sides are sawed, as they are not involved in the optical function.
