The Golden Dividers - AstroMedia
Pre-cut cardboard kit for a measuring compass with a third leg that divides the distance between the outer legs according to the golden section.
Tool for artists and craftsmen
The Golden Compass was invented in 1893 by the doctor and painter Adalbert Goeringer and is an ingenious, practical tool for tracing the Golden Section in art and nature and taking it into account in craft or graphic work. This is made possible by the middle leg: it always divides the distance between the two outer legs according to the golden section.
Pure harmony
The "golden section" is the term used to describe a certain division ratio of a distance (or a surface, an angle, etc.) that is perceived by people as particularly harmonious. For this purpose, a line is divided into sub-lines a and b in such a way that the larger line a relates to the smaller line b in the same way as the total line a + b relates to the larger line a.
Art and nature
This size relationship has been known since Greek antiquity and can be found not only in numerous works of art and architecture, but also in the proportions of the human body and in many plants.
