The royal cubit
Product number:
680.AKE
The royal cubit has been an integral part of ancient Egyptian civilisation since its beginnings some 5,000 years ago and is thus one of the original measures of historical humanity. Its divisions or multiples can be found in almost every ancient Egyptian building or work of art. Artfully decorated cubits, some of them studded with gold plate, were presented as gifts to temples or given to important dead persons in their graves, such as Tutankhamen, whose burial treasure included no fewer than 6 wooden cubits.
This carefully reconstructed cardboard replica offers history you can touch: The hieroglyphics of the divisions (finger, hand width, fist, span, upper arm, etc.) are intuitively legible even for the untrained, and a centimetre scale on the underside allows interesting comparisons of measurements. The enclosed four-page accompanying documentation introduces the historical background and contains a careful translation of the consecration inscriptions.
This item is well suited for school classes, group work or as a gift.
