Varus Battle at Kalkriese
Varus Battle at Kalkriese - Craft set with palisade wall, people, trees, horsemen and vehicles
Three Roman legions under the leadership of Legatus Varus were crushed by Germanic invaders near today’s village of Kalkriese. The Germanic Arminius, an officer of the Roman auxiliary troops, had deliberately led the Roman lord into the difficult terrain between forest and moor. There the Roman lord was now trapped and a large part of the legionaries were killed in battle. In view of the catastrophe Varus committed suicide.
