3 Schreiben-Paletten - Selbstbausatz
3 pen pallets and 6 papyrus 29 x 7 cm
In the German language the word for “understand” of something is a wonderful double word. “Begreiffen” means understanding, but it also says that you have to touch something. All people, especially children and young people, must be able to touch things in order to understand. Make a scribe palette, label it with your own name and draw hieroglyphics on real papyrus. A haptic experience that makes teaching vivid and fun.

The scribe
Being a scribe meant carrying a lot of responsibility and was a very desirable profession from the Egyptians' point of view. They noted down exactly how much was harvested, how many houses and estates there were in a district and how many people lived there. The taxes to be paid in kind were then based on these lists.
The writing
The rushes are cut thinly at the end or chewed soft in a historical way; we recommend tapping them softly with a small hammer. Then, as with watercolours, the paint is wetted with a little liquid and it is ready for writing.
