The Bust of Nefertiti
The Bust of Nefertiti is one of the most famous art treasures of Ancient Egypt and is considered a masterpiece of sculpture from the Amarna period.

It was made during the reign of Pharaoh Akhenaten in the 18th Dynasty (New Kingdom) between 1353 and 1336 BC. The bust of Queen Nefertiti was discovered on 6 December 1912 during excavations by the German Oriental Society in Tell el-Amarna, the workshop of the chief sculptor Thutmosis. It was brought to Germany in January 1913 as part of the division of finds with the permission of the Egyptian Antiquities Authority.

Because Egypt was a British protectorate at the time of the excavations and thus the bust came to Germany under conditions imposed by the occupying forces, not the Egyptians, it is argued that the bust is colonial looted art. Egyptian authorities have reg
