Product information "Papyrus Large-Size - The Goddess Maat"

The Goddess Maat
The goddess Maat is depicted as a woman with an ostrich feather on her head. The feather is also the symbol of the goddess.

We find it difficult to translate the term "Maat", but it can best be summarised as truth, justice and moral righteousness. She was considered the daughter of Re and appeared, among other things, in her manifestation of Tefnut as the eye of Re. Her symbol as well as her name hieroglyph is the feather, which is also the symbol for the world order as a whole.

One of the pharaoh's most important tasks was to maintain the Maat and thereby stabilise Egypt. It therefore had to be constantly renewed and preserved. On temple walls, the pharaoh offers an image of the goddess to the most important gods. In this way he preserves the Maat and, as the "food of the gods", he also gives them everything they need to live. The gods, too, can only live from the Maat.
